About SportsMission

SportsMission came into existence in the summer of 2009, when Jay Legate, Tim Embleton and Joseph Gunn were asked to become the new hosts of Coastway Hospital Radio’s weekly sports show. Initially titled TeamSport, the show began broadcasting from 2pm until 5pm every Saturday afternoon, and covered primarily football news as well as keeping listeners updated with the current scores across all of the English leagues.

Over time, the show grew in size as the team’s experience developed. After two years of broadcasting, the show was rebranded as SportsMission in the summer of 2011, and expanded its interests to cover all sports locally and nationally. SportsMission also increased its online exposure at this time to include the website www.sportsmission.co.uk, Twitter (SportsMission11), Facebook (SportsMission Coastway) and YouTube (SportsMission11). The inclusion of a YouTube channel allowed the team to branch out into the production of video packages, and in October 2011, SportsMission entered the world of television. Latest TV, a Brighton-based television production company began broadcasting the video content of SportsMission as part of their online magazine programme. The addition of the SportsMission team was a bonus for Latest TV, who now had its own sports broadcasting team, with an established show ready to go.

SportsMission continues to broadcast live on Coastway Hospital Radio, and also online through the SportsMission and Coastway websites (www.coastway.org). It is also available as a downloadable podcast through iTunes. In addition to keeping listeners up to date with all the sports news from around the world, the show also includes several regular features: The Dodgy Quiz, in which Jay tests Tim and Joseph’s knowledge of diverse sporting trivia, Who Are You, Joseph’s fiendishly difficult name the sportsman or woman game, Transfer Corner, where Tim mixes fact and fiction to create a host of transfer rumours, with Jay and Joseph separating the true stories from the lies, and The Stevie Thorne Hall Of Fame, honouring sports legends from all disciplines.
